random ideas that come from daydreaming about babies

There's not a lot that I can do right now to prepare for the baby. Mostly because I need the help of a big strong man to move things around upstairs and haul/put together any furniture that we need. And my favorite big strong man is nowhere to be found. SO, I'm left to researching and making lists. And if you know me at all, you know I'm not complaining.

I'll show you my spreadsheets if you want.

Our plan is to spend the six weeks before Andrew goes back to school (in early July) getting as much baby stuff done as possible. Until then, here are some ideas I have rolling around up there. Some that are specific to baby-prep and some that are just general thoughts on things I'd love to do with the little one.

First up, We're going the cloth diaper route. Don't judge, k? We've done a lot of research and feel like it's the best decision for us. AND it'll save a lot of money.

I really, really LOVE this idea for holding books. Rain gutters in a little reading corner? Genius. I'm totally doing it.

I have several thoughts on a DIY mobile, but this one? I die.

It's a good thing I went through a fabric-buying phase and now have a good stash, because I'm totally doing this. Such a simple and sweet way to capture the babe's growth through the first year.

And how sweet would this print be framed on a nursery wall? Precious.

That's all I've got. Not really, but let's not get carried away. Besides, once we know what we've got baking in there, the fun will really begin.

Yessss.

  1. Cloth diapers are a great idea. We are looking into doing a trial to test them out and see which kind we like as well as if Ben can handle using them or not. If you like the BumGenius ones, I have heard good things about GoGreen Pocket diapers which a much less expensive and just as good of quality (simply just a newer company) so you may want to look into them. And I love the gutter shelving idea too, way cute!

  2. You go, girl! We've talked about cloth diapers many times...and have just never been quite able to convince ourselves its a good idea (for us). I have LOTS of friends that use them though, and love them...so I think you'll be happy. :) One of my main concerns was not even knowing what kind to get. There are so many out there, and so many people like that kind, and not this kind...and so many other people are totally opposite. It's scary to invest in something you're not sure you'll even be happy with or not. I can't wait to see what kind you go with, and how they work for you!

I love the gutter idea too! How cute!

The onsie idea is cute, but I think I'd do ___ Months....rather than ____ Weeks. I think doing one for every week would get old quite fast. The weeks start flying by once the baby gets here and it'd be hard to keep up! At least it would for me. :)

  4. Cute, cute book shelf. Love the custom onesie too. There's really nothing more satisfying as a preggers mom-to-be than getting the nursery ready!! Balance it out with a healthy dose of "babies /really/ only need to be warm and dry, fed and cuddled, loved and talked to" (the rest of it is really for us isn't it?)...and you are well on your way to setting up the perfect home for your baby. Love you. Thanks for letting us in on the planning. :-)

  6. CDing is fabulous! I think you'll love it. All in ones are the way to go- at least have a few for trips out and about. And make sure you have a diaper sprayer.I couldn't have survived without one. DIY cloth wipes are also super fun :) Isn't YHL the best... Their ideas never fail to amaze me!
